What Are Some Reasons to Be Physically Active?

Physical activity isn't exactly enticing for a lot of people. The thought of spending time walking, running, or lifting anything that might be considered slightly heavy is enough to dissuade them from even trying. Still, it is necessary for everybody to get involved in activities that demand some kind of physical effort. There are many benefits to them, and as you will see, they can be life-changing.

Improving Emotional Wellbeing

Exercise can relieve stress. As you get involved in physical activities, adrenaline is produced by the body resulting in an increase of blood flow to your brain. More blood means more oxygen, and that results in being more aware of your surroundings lowering the stress response. Furthermore, a good workout release endorphins, which are the biochemicals responsible for making you feel good. To experience a feeling of wellbeing, you only need to walk or jog for approximately 150 minutes per week or 30 minutes per day.

Decreased Risk of Disease

Inactivity is more dangerous than most people think. Prolonged bouts of sitting lead to an increased risk of embolism. Moreover, researchers believe it can increase the chances of experiencing osteoporosis, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, and even premature death. On the other hand, being physically active can do much more than making you feel good on an emotional level.

It helps you by reducing the chances of experiencing chronic diseases such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, type two diabetes, certain types of cancer, and arthritis. Regular exercise strengthens the heart and the blood vessels allowing more blood to be pumped into the body's tissues with less effort. It also decreases glucose levels in the body, especially after a meal, preventing blood sugar spikes that might cause organ damage. Better blood circulation means more oxygen to your cells, which has been known to decrease tumor growth in certain types of cancer. Muscles around the joints and bones get stronger with moderate physical activity diminishing the effects of arthritis.

There is no need to run a marathon to get these health benefits. Every bit of physical activity helps. You can start with walking for a few minutes. Once you get used to it, you can aim for 150 to 300 minutes of exercise per week. Strength training two days a week and low-impact aerobic exercises such as walking, swimming, cycling the rest of the week are good enough to enjoy the health benefits.

Enhancing Personal Appearance

It isn't a secret that a good workout can help you look better. Think about it. As you exercise, you burn calories, and that helps you achieve your ideal weight faster. It is easier for you to wear clothes that make you happy and comfortable. Additionally, you can tone the muscles of your body, making them firmer and defined. Walk, jog, swim, or cycle for about 30 minutes daily to keep calories away from you. Getting a toned body will also require adding strength training such as lifting light weights at least two times a week.

Exercising and keeping your body active have some distinctive advantages. You can feel better, be healthier, and look your best. It won't take a lot of time to see the results of your efforts. Just give it a try to see for yourself why being active is good for you.
